Formative Assessment: Getting it Wrong from the Beginning
For a long time, now, we have thought of effective feedback as being timely and specific. But what do we really mean by this, and is this type of feedback, indeed, effective? In this session, we will interrogate this view for both effectiveness and feasibility as well as explore a different view of effective feedback that will allow us to construct a more effective understanding of formative assessment. The ideas discussed will make references to and extend the ideas within the book, Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics (Grades K-12): 14 Teaching Practices for Enhancing Learning.
