Educators in a discussion at a conference session | What Is LITERACY FOR ALL: The National Institute? A Conference Like No Other | Carnegie LearningUpdated May 12, 2023 with this year's events details.

As a passionate educator, you’ve probably been to professional conferences before. Can we take a guess? There were 5,000-8,000+ attendees, 300-400+ concurrent sessions, a 200+ page program, multiple hotels, and a dismal daily step count.

By the end of the day, you’d probably been talked at for at least eight hours and were feeling utterly exhausted. The thing about larger conferences is that they typically feature research professors sharing their research and stopping there. This is great for other researchers, but it often makes for gaps in classroom applicability and few chances to share strategies with your colleagues.

When searching for authentic learning opportunities that will actually revitalize your pedagogy, bigger isn't always better.

Instead of attending the same huge conferences, why not look for an experience that will truly impact your teaching? Why not prioritize a conference where you’ll leave with a whole suitcase of data-driven best practices you can start using in your classroom right away?

Time For Something New: LITERACY FOR ALL

LITERACY FOR ALL: The National Institute is different from other literacy conferences because it places you and your fellow teachers at the center of the experience. You drive the discussions, you shape the sessions, and you get the practical tools you need.

We believe literacy is a fundamental human right that transforms lives. We also believe that every student is fully capable of becoming a lifelong reader and learner, although each learning journey is unique. Most importantly, we believe YOU are the key to creating the next generation of thinkers.

LITERACY FOR ALL honors and strengthens the crucial work you do.

At this conference, you’ll get:

  • Four days at a luxury resort and spa. You’ll be challenged and enriched and also take time to relax and recharge.
  • Three high-energy, engaging power talks. Planned with teachers in mind, they’ll focus on concrete strategies for your classroom, providing insights to help you reflect and grow as an educator.
  • Twenty-five interactive breakout sessions. None of these will be “sit and get” sessions—you’ll be hands-on the whole time. Plus, you'll choose the sessions most relevant to you.
  • Sessions curated by teachers for teachers. You’ll learn from session presenters and also from your fellow participants. With so many teachers working together, you can feel confident that the information being shared is evidence-based and actually works.
  • A focus on literacy through an equity lens. Although session topics will vary, all will be rooted in the belief that literacy skills are a major building block of equity, both in and outside the classroom.
  • Time to network with colleagues from around the country. Along with collaborative sessions, social time is built in for you to informally connect with other educators.
